Planning for Floods:
Legendary Filmmaker to Show and Discuss Two Films
Planning for Floods a film by and
discussion with legendary documentary film maker George C.
Stoney, explores the faulty philosophy of the Army Core of
Engineers in planning for catastrophic floods; together with the
fabled 1938 film The River, explaining in
epic “agitprop” style, the damaging national flood policy of that
time. Composer Virgil Thomson provided the musical score for
The
River.
After the film presentations, Tom Williams,
Post-Morrow Foundation VP and Co-Chair of the Carmans River
Partnership, will discuss the results of the Carmans River Watershed
Preservation Plan Study commissioned to understand the effect of
large scale development now under consideration for acreage on the
edge of the Carmans River in Yaphank.
